Licensed insurance companies in Algeria (2026)

VerifiedVerified against the CSA register, checked 2 Sept 2026.

The 25 insurance companies licensed in Algeria in 2026, as recorded by the Commission de Supervision des Assurances (Ministry of Finance) (CSA), with the class of business and ownership each one is registered under.

Snapshot

By class of business

Each company is counted once, under the class its register row records. The supervisor’s own tally counts licences, so a company licensed for more than one class appears more than once there.

By ownership

  • State-owned / parastatal10 40%
  • Domestic private7 28%
  • Foreign multinational6 24%
  • Mutual / cooperative2 8%

“Cross-border groups” counts foreign multinationals and pan-regional groups; “domestically owned” counts domestic private, state-owned, mutual and captive entities. The register records the parent’s type, not its home market. How ownership is recorded

Supervisor
Commission de Supervision des Assurances (Ministry of Finance) CSA
Regime
Ordonnance 95-07; life/non-life separation
Register source
Conseil National des Assurances (CNA), 'Acteurs > Societes d'assurance' - the directory of agreed insurance companies, 27 entries over 3 pages, each entry carrying that company's Ministry of Finance arrete d'agrement as published in the Journal Officiel. Retrieved 23 Sep 2026. To be plain about what it is: this is the CNA's own directory, not a list issued by the supervisor. The CNA is the consultative council created by decret executif 95-339 under the tutelle of the Ministry of Finance; the supervisor is the Commission de Supervision des Assurances / Direction des Assurances inside that ministry, whose site (mf.gov.dz) timed out on every attempt today and whose Commission has no site of its own. What the CNA republishes is the ministry's own agrement decrees, one per company, which is why it is treated here as the register.

Governing legislation

  • Ordinance 95-07, amended by Law 06-04 · Institutional and insurance framework

Article 209 establishes the insurance supervisory commission acting through the insurance administration of the Ministry of Finance.

Verification log

Reconciled against the CNA directory of agreed insurance companies (27 entries, each with its Ministry of Finance arrete d'agrement), 23 Sep 2026: all 22 rows matched, nothing removed, three companies added (CNMA, El Djazair Takaful and El-Djazair El-Moutahida de Takaful Familial) and Salama Assurances Algerie corrected from takaful to general, its agrement being a conventional non-life one. MAATEC appears on the directory but its agrement lapsed on 16 May 2017 and is not counted; the GAM takaful window is a licensed window inside GAM Assurances, not a separate company.
